History

Corrine (Lehmann) Dragoo's family conserved the family hay meadow for several generations, and Corrine (Lehmann) Dragoo protected the Lehmann Prairie permanently for future generation via a conservation easement with NPAT.

Site Description

Lehmann Prairie is a tallgrass prairie remnant of the Blackland Prairie. Texas' Blackland Prairie is part of the endangered tallgrass prairies of North America, of which less than 1% remains due to conversion to agriculture and development.

Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) and Indiangrass (Sorghastrum nutans) are dominant grasses.  Gilgai, natural depressions in the prairie, harbor different native plant species and increase biodiversity.
